Pitts Performance Willow IKF Region 7 Race Report
Pitts Performance Drivers Dominate Willow Springs
Willow Springs International Raceway, Rosamond, CA.
Pitts Performance has been dominating IKF Region 7 competition this year, but Round 4 at Historical Willow Springs International Raceway was something special for the team. Pitt’s drivers won more the 50% of the classes with ten class wins and recorded thirty top 5 finishes. To say it was a dominating performance would be an understatement.
Pitts Performance Kid Kart drivers continued to control the front of both Kid Kart classes. The high winds made for an incredible battle up front with Jarrett Tachovsky, Anthony Sawyer and Ethan Barrett breaking away from the field. Each driver took there turn at the front, but with two laps to go Ethan Barrett and Anthony Sawyer made contact causing Ethan to spin. Tachovsky took this opportunity to catch up and draft by Sawyer going up against the wind into turn 8. Tachovsky took the win with Sawyer second and Barrett hanging on for third. A special congratulations goes out to Hudson Morrow who came home in fourth place in his first ever IKF Race. Hudson and his father have been training hard and he proved hard work pays off with his fourth place finish.
After much conflict between the tech officials and a competing engine builder Saturdays Kid Kart tech went on for more then five hours. After a thorough and complete engine tech on all top 4 Pitts motors everything was found to be completely legal. Proving once again Pitts Performances engine shop runs legal and fair motors and has never and will never build illegal motors. Pitts would like to thank the tech crew for providing intense tech to once again provide confidence racing in IKF Region 7 has not only the top racers, but fair and equal grounds for competition. This tech did not slow down the Kid Kart drivers as Saturday night Pitts Engine builders put all four motors back together for Sundays race where again the drivers captured the top four spots, this time with Ethan Barrett taking the win, Jarrett Tachovsky second and Anthony Sawyer third. Hudson Morrow backed his Saturday performance up with a fourth again on Sunday.
In the Cadet classes Slater Stowell on his BA-1 chassis continued his dominance from round 3 with more dominance at round 4. Stowell walked away with two wins and a second place finish. Stowell won both HPV 1 races making it three wins in a row for him. Slater drove an incredible race in HPV on Sunday after being knocked back to eighth place on contact in turn 1 Stowell kept his cool and drove back to the front picking off the field and cruising to the win. Colton Herta made his debut for the Pitts team on our BA-1 chassis at Willow and it was impressive. Colton was on pole in HPV on Sunday before coming home in third spot and almost pulled of the win in Junior 1 before having contact on the last lap. His best finish of his career came in Rookie Sportsman with a second place run. Colton led in three of the four classes and was competitive all weekend he showed there is a new contender for the juniors to deal with in the future. Additionally, Christian Brooks won his first pole since moving up from Kid Karts at the beginning of this year and recorded a third place finish in Junior 1. There is no doubt this nine year old driver will be a force in the future. Congratulations to Jacob Drew and Chase McDaniel on some great finishes as well.
The superstar of the weekend was no doubt Jake Craig. Jake and his CRG won three classes at Willow Springs controlling the Yamaha classes winning both days. Craig added a win in HPV 2 on Sunday culminating an incredible three win weekend for this first year Junior 2 drivers. Tyler Palmer and CRG again showed he is the consistent one recording three seconds and a fourth this weekend. Palmer had a great drive in Saturdays HPV 2 racing. After losing a tire in the heat race Palmer race back to fourth in the main setting the races fastest lap in the doing.
Kyle Shriver continued to impress with three wins at Willow. Shriver swept the weekends HPV4 races and added a nice drive in Sundays TAG Light class. Shriver has proven tuff to beat since his move up to the senior categories. Team Race Prep, CRG and Shriver have put together eight wins in the last two IKF Weekends. That is one impressive team and driver performance.
Pitts would like to thank all of its drivers for there great performances.
