round 1 IKF Button Willow
Business as usual for Team Pitts Performance
January 12th, 2010. Van Nuys, Ca
Results are our business, and business is good. With the 2010 IKF Region 7 Championship Series underway Team Pitts Performance is already getting back to the business of getting results for customers.
Team Pitts Performance will be trackside at all 2010 IKF Region 7, LAKC, and Challenge of the Americas races supporting customers and the weekend of January 9th-10th at Buttonwillow Raceway Park was just the first of many trips to the track for the new year.
Loyalty paid off big time this weekend for Colton Herta whose great form was a carryover from last year as he kept his momentum going into the new season on his Pitts powered BA1. Herta started things off right with two poles to his credit and brought home half the Cadet first place trophies with two wins. Always in the hunt no matter the class, he finished every race on the podium, adding a 2nd and 3rd place finish to his pair of wins. Christian Brooks, also on a Pitts powered BA1 placed 3 out of 4 races on the podium, scoring a pole in KPV1 in the process. Brooks picked up a pair of 2nd place finishes and one 3rd to finish off his weekend. His time is coming and don’t be surprised to see him win at round 2 of the IKF Region 7 Series in Phoenix next month. Jacob Drew is also one of those drivers knocking on the door of Mr. Win Races. He was in the fight all weekend long and a 5th place finish was not enough to represent how well he ran. Team Pitts Performance would like to welcome Anthony Sawyer into the Cadet ranks after moving up from Kid Karts. Also joining Pitts this year on a BA1 Cadet chassis is Lindsey Freier and Cooper Whitbred.
Team Pitts Performance once again dominated the Kid Kart class, with Hudson Morrow and Luis Ortiz leading the way. After a dismal qualifying session in adverse conditions Morrow overcame all challengers to win his first IKF Region 7 Kid Kart race on Saturday. It took less than a lap for his Pitts power to kick in and rocket him from 5th on the grid into first place. Once out front it was clear sailing to the finish. Fellow Team Pitts Performance drivers Braden Waterman finished in 3rd place, Luis Ortiz 4th, and Carson Enright 5th. Bryson Waterman and Denzel West finished just outside the top five.
Sunday’s Kid Kart qualifying saw the top four positions owned by Pitts drivers. Braden Waterman earned the pole with Morrow, Ortiz, and West right behind. Ortiz found some extra speed in the 8-lap final and was able to grab his first win of the New Year, just beating the field to the checkered flag. At the mad dash for the line Morrow came up just a few tenths off Ortiz and was nipped at the line, finishing in 3rd place. Haden Wagner finished 2nd running on Pitts Power for the first time, Braden Waterman was also in the lead battle, finishing in 4th. Enright scored his second top five finish of the weekend just beating out Bryson Waterman.
Jake Craig flew the Team Pitts Performance banner for Junior 2. Craig, a standout in the Team Pitts Performance lineup from 2009 managed to find his way to the podium in all 4 Junior 2 races this weekend. Craig scored a pair of 3rds on Saturday, nabbed a pole in Sunday’s KPV2 class and finished 2nd twice, right on the heals of the leader. Where other championship hopefuls faltered here and there Craig remained consistent and is poised for Phoenix next month.
