LAKC/Gatorz Karting Cup Joint Race Update
Here is information that should answer some the questions about the joint race weekend. An official race schedule will be posted on our web site later this weekend. The Rotax classes will have two 8 lap heat races and a 20 lap main event with all the IKF and Shifter classes running the usual raceday program of one heat and a main. Here is a summary of the weekend activities:
Saturday: Regular open practice will be held from 9 to 5 P.M. Starting at 5:00 in the evening, official Rotax hot-pit qualifying will begin with 15 minute sessions for each class. Mini Max is up first, Senior Max/DD2 second, Rotax Junior third, and then wrapping up with the Masters class. The BBQ catered by the Blue Agave Southwestern Grill will also start at 5:00. Every registered racer will get a free a meal ticket. This is for all classes, not just Rotax so, no matter what class you are running, please register for Sunday’s race on Saturday so that you get your free meal ticket. Saturday registration will be conducted at the track entrance between 2 and 5:30 P.M. with additional meal tickets available for a donation of $10 each.
Sunday: For all our IKF and Shifter class racers, the raceday will be the same as usual for the most part. The driver’s meeting will be conducted at 8 A.M. with the 2 practice sessions right after that as usual. Please note that you will be going back out for session 2 a little sooner since the Rotax classes are not included in the practice rotation. All of the Rotax racers that qualified Saturday evening will get an official 5 minute warm-up session immediately following the last practice session. The Saturday qualifiers will not be allowed on track prior to the official Rotax warm-up session. Regular qualifying for all the IKF and Shifter classes will follow the R-Max warm up session. The race order for the rest of the day is R-Max heat 1, IKF/Shifter heats, R-Max heat 2, IKF/Shifter main events, and then the R-Max main events to wrap up the raceday.
For any Rotax racers that cannot make the Saturday qualifying session, you will be allowed to practice and qualify on Sunday morning. The Senior, DD2, and Masters classes can practice and qualify with the Tag/PRD Spec group with the Mini and Junior Max classes going out with the KPV-2/PRD Junior group. The Sunday qualifiers will not have the benefit of the 15 minute hot-pit sessions and will start in order at the back of the grid for heat 1.
We will have podium trophy and prize presentations for the Rotax classes immediately following the main events. The first place prizes will include a certificate for a pair of Gatorz sunglasses of your choice.
