Post All Jr-1 Comer Members
To all Junior 1 Comer racers

For many years LAKC has offered competitive karting in a professional environment, this brings out the top drivers and teams. The Pilot Program was introduced to allow the freshman or novice drivers to earn an award. We offer our pilot programs in order for the newer drivers to compete against other drivers at the same experience level and receive awards and recognition based on their performance compared to the like group. This season we want to give those racers a chance at the podium. The intent has always been for the Jr-1 Pilot drivers to be run in conjunction with the Junior 1 class, yet to be scored separately. The idea was to offer a place to help maintain confidence in the drivers moving up from kid kart. All too often we see kid kart drivers move up only to be lapped in their first few races. Going from a winner to being lapped can be a shock and discouraging to some of the racers.

All Junior 1 Comer racers are scheduled to run together, unless the combined field exceeds the 34 driver limit.

Junior 1 historically has been one of the largest classes in karting. In the not so distant past the Junior 1 class would attract 40 plus drivers. We had drivers who would not qualify for the main event, and went home after an LCQ. During this time in karting the class had varying levels of experience and ability, we were not having issues over and above the general kart racing issues. Kart racing is motorsport.

The Junior 1 class fell to its lowest participation levels over the previous few years. LAKC in an attempt to grow the class we now offer a more economical tire along with other promotional and incentive items to help expand the racer base. It looks to have been a success as we are looking at possibly the largest group of Junior 1 drivers in recent years.

The new & novice drivers must learn the ways of racing with other karts on track that many times are much faster, they must obey all flags when displayed. Blue flags will be shown and must be acknowledged. If the blue flag is ignored, the driver will receive a full black flag and must exit the track for that session. We will be available to work with any driver that may have issues with procedures on track with the faster karts.

If you are not comfortable with your racers ability to run with a large fast group, we can suggest other avenues to learn race craft to help prepare your driver to compete at the upper most levels.

LAKC will refund your entry and membership if you feel you are not ready and will welcome you back anytime you feel prepared. We apologize if there was any confusion.

Thank you
LAKC BOD
