Post kid kart age limit
Last year kid karters were allowed to race after their 8th birthday in order finish out the season and compete for the championship. This year the rules state that kid karters cannot race after they turn 8. Is this an oversight, or are kids not going to be able to finish out the season? My daughter has raced every race so far this year but turns 8 on Sep. 6th, can she run the last two races of the year?

Paul and any other concerned kids and parents,

IKF rule 208.3 KID KART

(paragraph 2 -)
Age requirements for the class are attained age 5 years old thru competition age 8. see section 104.6 for clarification.

rule 104.6.1 COMPETITION AGE: IKF competition age is the highest age of the driver during the calender year (January 1 thru December 31). Also, a driver with an attained age of 15 may move to a competition age of 16.

104.6.2 ATTAINED AGE: IKF attained age is the age of the driver on the day of competition.

We (LAKC) clearly clarify this rule in our club rules under the classes for 2008 description section found on the web site.

from the LAKC website...KIDS KART
Championship Class - New style motor only
Driver must have attained the age of 5 to compete
When driver attains the age of 8, they can no longer
compete in the Kid Kart class. No Exceptions
New Kids must present a birth certificate
10/89 gearing, 42" max width
per 2008 IKF rules -

I will however talk with the IKF office to double check that we (LAKC) didnt ask for that option when we applied for our local option classes for 2008. If I remember correctly (which I may be wrong) they had denied the request but approved the class as a championship.
I will post something when I get the answer. Sorry for any cofusion this has caused.

We went thru this same thing last year and it was determined that LAKC would honor the IKF Region 7 Options since LAKC hosted a IKF Region 7 event and and uses thoses options in all other classes. But that was last year and I'm not sure they are using the same philosophy this year.

2008 IKF Region 7 Approved Options: ... sFINAL.pdf

Item 2A: Basically states that if you turn 8 during the season you can finish the season. :D

Good Luck - Hope they let you guys finish the season.

Thanks Jeff. I'm sorry if this subject caused any undo stress about the rules of age but we DO allow you to complete the year if you turn 8 during that year. Our LAKC rules just did not get updated and David tends to jump before checking things out completly.

Thanks everyone. We'll be there in September and October. Now if someone can just tell me how to pick up another 2-1/2 seconds so that we can run up front in her last two kid kart races. :D
